Spring in the Rockies

We had a wild trip here a little over a week ago.  We started out with two vehicles on Tuesday morning early and drove all the way to New Mexico before we determined that the Miata might not have been a good idea to take along.  We had hoped that the Miata would be our run-around car once we got to the cabin.  We're not sure if it was the heat of Southwest Texas that made the Miata act up... upwards of 111 degrees... but we didn't want to take a chance of having a broken car in Colorado.  We turned around after close to 500 miles and brought the Miata home.  We left early the next morning with just the truck.
We got to the cabin finally on Friday.  The weather didn't look good on Thursday afternoon as we got to Salida, Colorado which is on the eastern side of the Continental Divide, so we stayed in a hotel again on Thursday and got an early start on a much better weather day.  The cabin looked like it wintered well and it didn't take us long to get all unloaded and have a blazing fire going in the fireplace... it was much cooler than we anticipated.
I got right into quilting and nearly finished my first quilt top on the first weekend.  We took a ride on Sunday up to Mirror Lake on our Trail 90s.  We weren't sure we would get all the way up there... it is at 11,500 feet and sometimes you will find snow traces in July up there.  Overall it has been really windy and cool or maybe cold is a better word ever since we got here... but it has been sunny and beautiful otherwise.  A comforting fire to sit in front of makes it all worthwhile.
